GRADINGS

 

All students are eligible to grade. In order to be recommended to take a grading the student must fulfil the following criteria:

 

1)         Hold a current license.

 

2)         Train at a registered HRKG dojo.

 

3)         Have trained for the required length of time

(The minimum attendance is 25 sessions over a 16 week period maximum is 32.)

 

4)         Attained a standard which is perceived to be eligible for grading by their instructor or on the

            recommendation of the chief instructor.

 

For beginners and those up to and including 2nd brown belt (9th kyu to 2nd kyu) in principal eligible students can expect to grade every four months.

 

Brown belts (2nd kyu to 1 st kyu) a minimum of six months training must elapse.

 

1st kyu to 1st Dan/Shodan a minimum of twelve months training must take place.

 

Shodan to Nidan (1st Dan to 2nd Dan) a minimum of two years training must take place

.

Nidan to Sandan (2nd Dan to 3rd Dan) a minimum of three years training must take place

.

Sandan to Yondan (3rd Dan to 4th Dan) a minimum of four years training must take place.

 

Yondan to Godan (4th Dan to 5th Dan) a minimum of five years training must take place.

 

Gradings up to 1st kvu are marked in the following manner

 

PASS               Good average standard

 

FAIL               Lacking the standard required to attain the grade attempted.

 

Usually gradings up to and including 1st kyu are with a grading officer, who is usually your club

instructor.

 

Shodan and above gradings are done twice yearly by a panel which consists of the Chief Instructor of the HRKG and two other instructors who are 3rd Dan and above.
